Erlebnisse und Erfahrungen
Erfahrungsberichte der Schüler: Flora
Even though I have only been boarding since the start of this term, I must admit Rowntree has become a second home to me.
The boarding staff are very caring and always interested in our opinions or ideas. Whenever there is the opportunity to change any part of our boarding experience, they give us the chance to state what we want to improve to make our boarding experience the best it can possibly be.
In the first few weeks of boarding I had to get used to what the rules were, but they are not too strict and are just there to bring some structure to boarding life. They have helped me to get some control over when to do what during the week.
I really like that every weekend Boarding activities are offered. No one is forced to do the activities in their free time if they don't want to, but if you want something fun to do on the weekend then they are a great opportunity! Some activities are trips out, for example a shopping trip to Leeds. Others involve some kind of sport and in others you have the opportunity to be creative. So there is always something for you at some point! The boarding community is also asked what activities they would like to do and then the suggestions are usually offered – I really like this concept!
Everyone in Rowntree is very friendly and it feels like a big family. The Common Room has everything you need to avoid being a boring boarder!
We also have the opportunity to wash our laundry in the house or give it to the Sewing Room who do it for us. One thing I was scared of before coming to Bootham was how clean the rooms and bathrooms would be in Rowntree and I must admit that they are very clean!
Every floor in the house has it's own little kitchen with everything in it that is needed when you want to cook or bake something. You can also store food in the kitchen cupboards, fridges or freezers in house – the office also has snacks for when you get hungry!
At first it was quite hard to remember all of the boarding staff's names because the person on duty changes every couple of days but it is easier now and every staff member in Rowntree is very friendly and help with every issue there is. You can only love them!
One of my favourite things in Rowntree is when it is someone's birthday (sadly it is not my birthday whilst I am staying in Rowntree). The person whose birthday it is normally gets a cake or another treat that they ask for.
The boarding staff also make sure that you have something to eat at every meal time. If you are sick or don't have time to get to dinner due to a valid reason, then they will collect you a meal and bring it to house for you.
Frankly speaking, I have made so many experiences and wonderful memories during my time in Rowntree. I wish I could stay in Rowntree forever and I bet you will love Rowntree and everyone here too!
